About Us

Partners for Better Health Develops Public Health
Leaders of the Future, Today.

Our mission is to develop future leaders who understand the bold strategies to improve the health and well-being of all — all people and places thriving together. No exceptions.

Change requires fresh perspectives, new infrastructures, and bold leadership. We believe we must model the change we envision.

PBH works with universities, businesses, health care systems, community and faith-based organizations, and cities to co-create new paradigms that increase health in our communities. We encourage conversations and support improved infrastructures and ecosystems that collectively improve the health and well-being of all.

Our History

15 Years of Leadership, Collaboration, and Community Health

Our foundational legacy started in 2002 when a group of concerned community members made the decision that they wanted the quality of life in their neighborhoods and city to be different … to be healthier. They knew it could become better if people joined together to make real change.

In 2006, Partners for Better Health was formed as a 501(c)(3).

BUILD Health Challenge Recipient

Early in our formation, we were the chosen recipients of the BUILD Health Challenge (a national awards program supporting “bold, upstream, integrated, local, and data-driven” (BUILD) community health interventions in low-income, urban neighborhoods) for our work with The Healthy Ontario Initiative. This program brought the city together to battle obesity.

A Focus on Emerging Public Health Leaders

Over the years, PBH discovered change requires leadership. Our focus began to crystalize through The Randall Lewis Health & Policy Fellowship, as the instrument for developing leaders for the emerging future of public health.

The internship program is a prestigious and competitive fellowship for master and doctoral-level students interested in improving the health of the public.

To date, the good works of 250 fellows have positively impacted communities throughout Southern California and beyond.

As we look to the future, we will work to fortify an endowment that nourishes our mission and supports an ever-growing network of public health leaders who help each other and bring new vitality to the communities they serve throughout the Inland Empire, Southern California, and beyond.
